This Week's Treasure Hunt

Tuesday morning junque hunt was successful.

This little Flower Girl doll came in her original box, you have to love the uni-brow.

Just love old wood boxes, pretty labels inside and out on this cigar box.

More dolls and a porcelain figure. Let's get down to brass tacks, Junking is fun! (sorry)

These fasteners are really neat and the box is crying out to be altered.

This is my first face cup purchase, I have been admiring them for quite a while now, but the $1.00 price tag was too good to resist, wink, wink.

Vintage Hankie Flower Heart Pillow - Tuesday Treasure #14

Vintage hankie, hand crochet doily, rhinestone button, reused quilt, and antique chandelier crystal (difficult to see) were used to create this pretty hanging heart.
The flower could not be simpler to make. Cut strips off opposite ends of vintage floral hankie. Run gathering stitch along raw edge of first and add second strip, both strips should be gathered on the same thread. Pull to gather and tie off. Sew doily and button to center of ruffled hankie, and there you have it.
I have a stash of vintage hankies that I think I will be tapping into for more of these flowers.

Shoe Form Picture Holder - Tuesday Treasure #13

A vintage wood shoe form, lace. vintage millinery flower, and brass music holder came together to create this unique photo stand. (true confession time: this is not the shoe form pictured here, but another from my stash)

Beaded Flower Love - Tuesday Treasure #12

A solitary vintage beaded flower (available for purchase in my supply shop), tucked into a vintage wood spindle bobbin and embellished with a few simple pretties, a skeleton key, chandelier crystal, and seam binding, create a lovely wall hanging.

Curtain Ring Cuties - Tuesday Treasures #11

Love these mini treasures! Vintage seam binding wrapped and secured with a bow, dress up these humble rings. Antique text, vintage buttons, stamped images, and reproduced photos (from my collection) come together in the simplest of lovelies.

I Love You Sew Much - Tuesday Treasure #10

I promised in this post that it was a bit gruesome.

This little shadowbox was created using the lid from an old recipe box, vintage thread, buttons, pins, map, and the doll head. The text was hand-stamped, note: I always use vintage paper when stamping, all the inking and distressing in the world does not match the effect time has on a piece.

Creamy Dreamy Birdie - Tuesday Treasure #9

This tiny wall basket was way too country for my taste, so a quick coat of paint was in order. The monochromatic scheme of this was easy to achieve, since the bulk of my stash is composed of these dreamy creamy colors, laces, buttons, pearls, crystals, old text books, I love them all. After the paint dried on the basket, a snippet of old lace and vintage beaded earring were attached to the front. A page from an old book was commissioned as the perfect nesting material, and a pretty glittery craft store bird is the crowning touch.

A Little Bird Told Me - Tuesday Treasures #8

A nondescript gold tone oval frame was the beginning of this little piece. The domed glass allowed the dimensional birdie (from RetroCafe)

and metal rose to fit perfectly inside. Antique French book page, hand-stamped text, and this beautiful little girl (from PaperWhimsy)

were all that was needed to complete the collage, and a little paint, antiquing gel and varnish covered up that all-too-shiny gold tone frame.

Pretty Pink Sleeping Bebe - Tuesday Treasure #7

This precious sleeping baby Frozen Charlotte is a priceless focal point for this wall plaque perfect in any new baby girl's nursery. Vintage wallpaper, buttons, and lace, along with wire, paper roses, beads, and scrapbook papers are all that was needed to capture the priceless innocence of a sleeping infant.
The pretty pink lace and vintage doll were part of my Tuesday Junque Treasures, and I have several of the baby dolls available in my supply shop.

Doll Plate Special - Tuesday Treasure #6

Begin with a pretty chippy tray from a play tea-set and a pretty photo of a little girl from my collection, and so the story begins. Antique French text, vintage drawer pull, vintage lace, and a reworked rose from a thrift store find were all that was needed to create this lovely. The rose was off of the thrift store pillow, pictured here, I took the pretty chiffon petals apart and sewed them back together with a vintage lace circle and vintage rhinestone button.

Welcome Little One Card For Baby - Tuesday Treasures #5

I stripped that little doll bare, but wait until you see what I did with his head, yikes! A page from a vintage children's book for a background, a tag, stamped and tied with vintage seam binding, twine for a clothesline, and 2 toy clothes pins are all it took to create this sweetness. True confessions time: the clothes pins I purchased on Tuesday are green and didn't match the rest of the card, so I substituted a couple of blue ones. I have sets of 24 on these vintage toy pins in my supply shop.

A Timely Card For Dad - Tuesday Treasure #4

This little doll's vest was in a mixed bag of doll bits and just too darned cute, but it needed a little love. A few doll-sized buttons and a plastic boutonniere were just what was called for. Antique paper with clock images, a vintage measuring tape and watch-face, metal letters, twill tape and some zig-zag stitching and I have my Dad's Fathers Day card ready nearly 2 months early-I'm sure that's some sort of record.

French Dresser Tray - Tuesday Treasure #3

This tray was kismet. The idea for this piece was floating around in my head before my Tuesday Hunt, and behold, the picture frame was at the thrift store for $1.00. Antique French text, vintage lace, transparencies from ARTchix, vintage buttons and clock-face, a vintage photo from my collection, and antique Victorian scrap were all arranged and preserved under glass.

The underside is covered in velvet paper and 4 sweet feet created from metal doo-dads and acrylic beads elevate the tray. Be sure to check out the picture of the unloved picture frame in this post.

There's No Place Like Home - Tuesday Treasures #2

Dorothy said it best, there's no place like home.
These vintage, dirty, and doll-less shoes needed to elevated to greatness. What could be better than magically transforming them into a pair of ruby red slippers, and using them as the star of this little collage piece? Martha Stewart tinsel glitter in red did the trick. A sample of 1950s kitchen wallpaper, vintage floral trim, rub-on letters, stamps and ink, and armature wire (this was wrapped around the glass bottle) were all I needed to tell this story.

A Wee Teacup Fairy - Tuesday Treasure #1

This is the Wee Fairy I created using the broken china cup and a beaded flower from Tuesday's Treasure Hunt, read about it here: http://artjoystuff.blogspot.com/2010/04/there-is-very-small-tiny-really-flea.html.

A little girl from Paperwhimsy, sparkly butterfly wings, a bird's nest, a snippet of lace, and shredded antique paper are all that it took to feather this nest.

It's Tuesday, I Must Be Junking

There is a very small, tiny really, flea market held in my town every Tuesday. It's not the kind of event that you will ever find fine linens or antiques, however, it is often the source of plenty of good junque, small trinkets and treasures probably bound for the trash if they don't find a home today. I also try to make my way over to our local thrift store every week, and this week Tuesday was as good as any day.
As you can see, I found a couple interesting, a few pretty, and a handful of rustic, shall we say, items for my creative inspiration.

The plan for this mixed bag of treasures is share one item I create every day ,using something from my haul. I'm not quite sure how many days of posts that will be, however, I was looking for something new and different as a challenge for myself, and I think this idea is it.
